Welcome to our History

Established on its present site in Somerset Close since 1922, NMSC started life as a tennis club. During the ensuing years, it gradually developed in to a multi-rackets club offering badminton and squash facilities in addition to tennis.
In more recent times (1998) a gym was added, converting the club in to a genuine multi-sports complex with something for everyone ... including good social facilities.

During its history, the club has attracted a number of high profile tennis stars who have either played at, or been members of, the club. Notable among these were the legendary tennis player and multi-Grand Slam champion Fred Perry and his GB Davis Cup team mate Harry Lee in the late 1920’s. During the 1950’s, GB Davis Cup stars such as Billy Knight and Alan Mills win trophies at the club as did Grand Slam doubles winner Angela Buxton.
